Curing (Part 1)

Curing is a specific name given to the procedure that allows complete hydration reaction to take place, so as to sustain continuous development of concrete strength. The general practice often implemented is to provide water to concrete when it is hardened.
In addition, these are 2 significant roles of curing, which are
1.      to protect concrete from losing moisture and
2.      maintain the suitable temperature within concrete
Also, the important objectives of curing are
1.      sustain strength and durability of concrete
2.      prevent concrete from cracking by means of maintaining suitable temperature within concrete and minimizing the potential evaporation as much as possible.
In fact, curing may implicitly imply to control of temperature, in which rise in temperature will accelerate the so called hydration reaction vigorously and subsequently, induce a dramatic enhancement of concrete strength at the early stage. However, for long term aspect, such acceleration may rather result an adverse impact on deterioration of concrete’s quality.
